How to Apply Patches - Pressing Instructions

Our custom patches are designed for durable, long-lasting adhesion when applied using a heat press. The videos below provide step-by-step instructions tailored to different surfaces

Heat Press Application for Garments

1. Secure the Patch in Place

For smooth and accurate patch placement, begin by attaching the patch to your garment using heat-resistant thermal tape. This step prevents any movement during pressing and ensures the patch stays perfectly aligned—especially important for bulk or high-speed production.

2. Load the Garment Face-Down

After securing the patch, flip the garment so the patch is positioned face-down on the lower platen of your heat press. This orientation allows direct heat to activate the low-melt adhesive backing without exposing the visible side of the patch to unnecessary heat.

3. Heat Press the Patch

Place a protective guard sheet over the garment to avoid scorching or unwanted marks.

Press at 350°F for 20 seconds using medium to firm pressure (70–80 PSI).

These settings ensure strong adhesive activation and a long-lasting bond suitable for daily wear, washing, and large-scale production needs.

4. Allow the Patch to Cool

Remove the garment from the press and let it cool for 30 seconds to allow the adhesive to fully set. Cooling is crucial for durability and helps lock the patch securely onto the fabric.

Once cooled, gently peel off the thermal tape and inspect the patch for perfect adhesion.

Heat Press Application for Hats

1. Position and Secure the Patch

Place your patch on the desired area of the hat, keeping in mind the hat will remain upright during pressing. Use heat-resistant thermal tape to hold the patch firmly in place. This prevents shifting and ensures accurate alignment—critical for structured hats and curved surfaces.

2. Load the Hat onto the Press

With the patch secured, position the hat on the Hat Press lower platen, wrapping the hat around the platen so it fits snugly—almost as if the platen is “wearing” the hat.

Keep the brim facing upward.

Cover the patch with a protective guard sheet and tape it down to shield both the patch and hat fabric from direct heat.

3. Set Your Heat Press Parameters

For best adhesion and long-lasting results, use the following settings:

  • Top Platen: 280°F
  • Bottom Platen: 320°F
  • Pressure: Medium
  • Time: 45 seconds

Lower the top platen to lock the hat into place and start the pressing cycle. These temperatures and timing help activate the low-melt adhesive backing without damaging the hat’s shape or material.

4. Allow the Hat to Cool

When the press cycle ends, lift the top platen and let the hat cool for at least 30 seconds. Proper cooling helps the adhesive cure fully and creates a strong, durable bond between the patch and the hat.

After cooling is complete, remove the protective tape carefully.
